How Technology is Helping Improve the Premier League
Most of us are used to technology changing and improving our lives in many ways, but we might not realise just how much it has an effect on the much-loved game of football. When you get down to basics, football is a group of players kicking a ball on a pitch, in order to try and score a goal against another group of players – sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? However, actually places like The Premier League have made use of innovation and technology over the years which makes picking those group of players a much more technical process than you might realise.
Using Technology For Training Players
One of the things that Premier League players can now do is monitor how their body is performing when they are training and playing. Much more in-depth than just knowing how good their stamina is and when they feel tired monitors now allow players and coaches to monitor heart rate, track via GPS how much distance a player has run during a session and even view back video footage from a chest camera to see how the game played out. Any professional player will tell you that doing well in somewhere such as the Premier League takes more than just being a decent player – so these statistics allow players to perfect their game much more than they could have a few years ago.
Finding New Players
Scouting for new talent is important to most teams because it allows them to take a young player under their wing and perfect their skills, but it also means that they get access to a player that no other team has – which when choosing the right player can be a massive advantage. These days, scouting for new players is much more sophisticated than hearing a tip-off from someone and going to watch a player practice. Sophisticated software allows coaches and managers to scroll through footage of potential players from all over the world and see if their skills match up with what they would be looking for from a player for their team.
Fans Getting Involved
There is no denying that technology has helped to open up the world of football to international fans. With internet streaming, online betting sites and even the chance to see live EPL scores online fans are able to keep up to date with the latest Premier League happenings, even if they’re in a different country and are unable to attend a match themselves. This helped to heighten the likability factor of lots of players too because the likes of social media help to make players seem much more accessible and that is always going to do wonders for their fan base numbers.
Keeping Players Fit
As well as players being able to monitor their health during games and coaching sessions, there are now algorithms said to be clever enough to know whether a player is at risk of injury. Software looks at data from a range of medical profiles, fitness assessments, historical injuries and puts together a risk factor to say how at-risk player might be of certain injury – of course, this heads up gives the player and his coach an indication of what they might be able to do to prevent the injury from happening in the first place, which is always a good thing!
There is no denying that in order to be a player in the Premier League you need to have skill and determination, but as technology improves and adapts even further it could be that we start to rely on technology and software just as much as we do the players ability to kick a ball well.
