Different Types Of Office Chairs
We may not acknowledge it but a chair plays a crucial role in office goers day to day life. Heck yes, it does! as we spent more time on it than our beds. However, they are so underrated that we don’t even know what types of chairs exist except the ones we have seen with our eyes. So, this article is going to be about chairs for office person and will enlighten you on their different kinds.
Ergonomic Chairs
These are the most common types of chairs you will see or find in an office setup. The ergonomic chairs are designed for comfortable sitting posture and support the lower back by helping you sit in an upright position.
These chairs mostly support backrest, lumbar support, headrest, armrest, and height adjustment. With so many features an ergonomic chair is ideal for offices as it allows you to work for longer hours without straining your back. Also, most ergonomic chairs are made out of mesh fabric, which is good for air circulation and prevents sweating.
- Executive Chairs
You may have guessed by its name, that this chair is used in offices by people sitting at higher posts or ranks. Mostly Chairman, CEOs, COOs, CMOs, and other top-level employees of an organization sit on an Executive chair. The reason behind it is that these chairs are super expensive and luxurious and therefore only reserved for the most valuable employees.
Moreover, these chairs support all the ergonomic features and are padded with extra premium fabric for the most comfortable sitting experience. If you are planning to get one for yourself then you will have to spend a good amount to get a decent executive chair.
Conference Chairs
Again the name speaks for itself, these chairs are used for conferences and important office meetings. Also, known as the boardroom chairs these encourage a forward-leaning posture which keeps you at a comfortable position and helps in being more attentive in the meeting.
However, these chairs don’t have proper back support so you should not sit on them for more than two or three hours at a stretch. Moreover, these chairs are not very expensive and you can buy them for your office even if you have a limited budget.
- Armless Task Chairs
The armless chairs are not the most comfortable chairs out there but you will still find them in most offices as they are inexpensive, and provides a lot of flexibility and movement. These are good for short term sitting but you cannot sit on them all day without having a backache.
Tablet Arm Chairs
You will mostly find these chairs in the training, lounge, or reception areas of a company. These have a fixed or swiveled side desk(tablet) mounted on one of its arms which provides a surface for writing or holding your electronic devices like tablets, phones, or laptops.
Moreover, these chairs are quite comfortable but don’t support many ergonomic features and therefore only used for limited sitting time. Also, when not in use you can easily fold away the tablet and use it as a normal guest chair as well.
- Kneeling Ergonomic Chairs
For designers who are suffering from chronic back pain, these chairs are nothing short than a miracle. These come with a knee rest angled at such a position that it divides your body’s weight between the bottom and the shins.
Moreover, sitting in a kneeling position help reduce tension from your back as it also involves your core muscles. So sitting on this chair not just relieves the back but also strengthens your core. However, these chairs should not be used for longer times as they can cause great discomfort after prolonged use. You can use them in combination with an ergonomic office chair, for better results.
Leaning Chairs
These are new kind of office chairs which allows you to stand and work. You will find these chairs in an office setup where standing desks are used or at places where standing and working go hand in hand like retail stores or banks.
Also, they are height adjustable so can also be used as normal sitting chairs when you want a break from standing.
- Balance Ball Chairs
These are crazy chairs that can be used by designers for a little workout session during the work. Consisting of a big inflatable ball over a flat bottom, these chair increases the blood circulation and builds core and leg muscles when you balance yourself over it.
Also called the stability or yoga ball chairs, these also help in burning calories and enhancing concentration much like Yoga. However, these chairs are meant to be used for a shorter duration(25-30 minutes) so can’t replace your existing office chairs.
- Stacking Chairs
As the name suggests, these chairs can be easily stacked one over the other for easy storage. However, these aren’t very comfortable chairs. But are widely used in office setups for large employee gatherings for a short period of time.
The benefits of these chairs are that these are inexpensive and require low maintenance and storage space. Moreover, the stacking chairs are made out of lightweight material which makes them portable and convenient to use.
Beam Seating
You must have seen these kinds of chairs in airports, schools, or other large organizations. Basically, these are multiple chairs (3 or more) welded together on a horizontal metal bar. So that several people can sit on them at one time.
This kind of seating is mainly used in order to accommodate more people in less space without causing inconvenience to them. Also, these chairs are durable and easy to maintain so they last really long.
Conclusion
Chairs have a direct connection with the health and productivity of office employees of an organization. So it’s important that a company must invest in good office chairs to get the best performance from its employees.
However, not all office chairs are same as different chairs serve different purposes. So one should wisely choose the chair best suited for their purpose.
